Colombia closed its third quarter of the year with a notable increase of 22.6% in foreign direct investment (FDI), marking a positive milestone on the path to economic recovery.
Despite a 4.8% decrease in the country's total investment, a significant highlight is the 15.4% increase in investment from the United States during the first half of 2023.
Data from the Banco de la República reveals that U.S. investment in Colombia reached its highest point since 2007, representing 30% of the total FDI in the same period. This influx of capital has positively impacted at least 14 sectors of the Colombian economy, generating around 110,000 formal direct jobs, according to the analysis of the Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Colombia). The strength of U.S. investment serves as a fundamental pillar for Colombia's economic stability in a challenging global context. The collaboration between the two countries has proven beneficial for sustainable growth and job creation in Colombian territory.
Although the total foreign direct investment (FDI) figure has experienced a decrease, Colombian authorities are committed to consolidating the trust of foreign investors and creating a favorable environment for investment. Experts emphasize the strategic importance of preserving and encouraging investments from the United States, recognizing their positive impact on both the economy and job creation in the country.
As Colombia works to overcome global challenges, the alliance with the United States consolidates as a key factor for economic growth and resilience in the face of international market uncertainties.
