At the heart of the prestigious tourism fair FITUR, held in Madrid, Colombia dazzles with its various advances in audiovisual production, inclusive management, and smart tourism.
Here are the most significant achievements of Colombia's participation in FITUR 2024.
Audiovisual - ProColombia's documentary series, Finding Encanto, shone brightly by receiving the coveted recognition of the 2023 Tourist Excellence Audiovisual Awards, presented by the renowned Excelencias Group. This honor, granted by an international jury composed of distinguished personalities from the tourism, art, and gastronomy world, represents a monumental milestone for Colombian audiovisual production. Under the direction of José Carlos de Santiago, president of the Excelencias Group, the jury selected Finding Encanto from a list of high-caliber nominees, highlighting the outstanding quality of its narrative and its commitment to the country's promotional strategy.
Inclusion - As part of Colombia's participation in this international event, Bogotá was recognized as the Best Inclusive International Tourist Destination by PREDIF, a Spanish entity specializing in equality and inclusion. This award highlights the city's commitment to adaptability of infrastructure and improvement of services for people with functional diversity. The distinction was awarded during the first edition of FITUR 4all, a new section of the event in Madrid. According to the District Institute of Tourism IDT, 56.1% of hotels and aparthotels in Bogotá have implemented access to facilitate the stay of people with functional diversity, according to the 2023 census.
Smart Tourism - With the aim of boosting both the business and tourist development of Cali, the city's tourism secretary, Mabel Lara, announced the implementation of a knowledge platform. This initiative is designed to strengthen Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the use of artificial intelligence tools. Lara emphasized the importance of this initiative, which seeks to position Cali as a Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) and aspires to its recognition as a full member in this network of destinations. The knowledge platform will offer MSMEs the opportunity to strengthen themselves through access to advanced technological tools, enabling them to improve their competitiveness and adapt to the demands of the current market.
With these achievements in the 44th edition of the International Tourism Fair FITUR, Colombia highlights its potential as a high-quality tourist destination on the international stage.
