This recognition places the Colombian river among such iconic destinations as French Polynesia, Madagascar, the Red Sea, Mongolia, Atacama (Chile) and Sri Lanka. The magazine, recognized as an authority on luxury tourism and lifestyle with 25 National Magazine Awards to its credit, describes the Magdalena River as Colombia's vital artery, meandering 1,500 kilometers from the Western Andes to the Greater Colombian Caribbean.
Condé Nast Traveler not only highlights the stunning natural beauty of the Magdalena River, but also the exciting navigability project that AmaWaterways, a renowned river cruise company, is undertaking. The company will begin operating two ships, the AmyMagdalena and the AmaMelodia, in November 2024 and January 2025, respectively. These cruise ships will travel to destinations such as Cartagena, Barranquilla, El Banco, Calamar, Magangué, Santa Bárbara de Pinto, Nueva Venecia and Palenque, offering capacity for between 60 and 64 passengers.
One of the highlights of these trips will be the town of Mompox, a UNESCO-designated site founded in 1540. Visitors will enjoy the charming riverfront plazas and ornate churches of this historic town. In addition, the three-story ships will offer unique experiences such as bird watching, hiking and a special focus on Colombian culture.
This recognition by Condé Nast Traveler not only highlights the beauty and cultural importance of the Magdalena River, but also positions Colombia as a top travel destination for travelers seeking new and exciting adventures in 2024.
